Stocking Tutorial! (it's ok if you're here for the template)

2 minute read

Why does Christmas bring out the crazy sewist in all of us?  It's not just me, is it?  Suddenly, everything needs to be handmade - the tree skirt, the cookies, the stockings, the gifts, the ornaments.... I want to be surrounded by things that have significance and handmade items are just the ticket!

I know I'm not going to get that whole list done this year, so instead, I'll tackle one item and see if I can handle the next once the first project is done. The truth? I'll be lucky if I get the first project done. And the first project is:

Stockings! Eight of them for my family... maybe a few more since I know there will be more in-laws (and grandkids?!?) joining eventually. Oh, and the three that I made for a friend.  But pictured is the first of the eight that will hang in my home - all out of blue and green and teal and aqua Kona Solids, and hand quilted with Aurifil 12 wt thread.

Piece Fabric Co's Autumn came up with template and put together the first few versions, seen here.

I love the neutral scheme she picked for stockings, but I just couldn't bring myself to stick to that, so here are my colour picks - one for each stocking.

After making the first stocking, and wrapping my head around how it all comes together, the next stockings sew up really quickly.

I still have at least 5 more to make... so go ahead and try to beat me - I like a good challenge.  Merry Christmas, friends!!
