Silk Stars Quilt-along, Week 1 - Fabric Selection

2 minute read

Welcome to Week 1 of the Silk Stars Quilt-along! Christine from Tessellate Textiles and I are so excited to quilt along with you!

We are making this:

Silk Stars Quilt, scrappy version by Tessellate Textiles

Or some version of this gorgeous quilt. Click on the photo above to be taken to Tessellate Textiles' shop to purchase the pattern.

As part of this quilt-along only, you will receive alternate layout options for the Silk Stars Quilt that are not included in the purchased pattern from Tessellate Textiles. Here they are:

Silk Stars Quilt variations by Piece Fabric Co.

In this post, we'll talk about selecting fabric for these two versions.

First up, the Extra Scrappy Silk Stars Layout:

For this quilt, you can use so many great bits of fabric from your stash. Shown here is the Pure Solids version made by me (Kendra), but kits are now sold out (sad face).

You'll need the same amount of background fabric for each size as listed in the Silk Stars quilt pattern, and for the stars:

Baby: 32 matched pairs of 4" squares

Throw: 72 matched pairs of 4.5" squares

Bed: 128 matched pairs of 5" squares

So start sorting through your stash and get all those bits out!

Next, the 4  Colour Silk Stars:

This quilt kit version IS still available in the shop, click on the photo to find it! In this version, each star follows the pattern instructions for the Vintage layout, but combine the requirements for A & E, B & F, C & G.

That's all of the instructions you get for this week!  Be sure to come back next week when I'll give you the instructions for cutting the fabric for these versions!

If you'd like to design your own layout, check out Quilt Ink and customize your pattern like this:

Or, message me (Kendra) at info@piecefabric.co with a bit of inspiration and we will pull together a custom quilt kit just for you!

Until next week, friends!

Kendra
